Travel Tips

FLIGHTS

For those flying to celebrate with us, the best airport is Glacier International Airport (FCA).

It's about 20 minutes from downtown Whitefish.

We often fly Delta or United from PHX or SFO.
Kayak & Google Flights are great resources for finding cheap flights!

The earlier you book, the cheaper the flight ;)

WHERE TO STAY

Thank you so much for traveling to celebrate with us! Our family and friends mean the world to us, and the reason we're having a wedding is to gather everyone we love in one place.

We know traveling to Whitefish can be expensive, so we recommend checking out our Airbnb and VRBO lists first, as they're often the most cost-effective option for groups. Just click the link, enter your dates, and it will automatically show accommodations that are still available.

We've also included a list of our favorite hotel recommendations below. Depending on where you stay, we highly recommend renting a car so you can explore the beautiful Flathead Valley and Glacier National Park while you're here. You can find more information, including transportation tips, in our FAQs below

GROUSE MOUNTAIN LODGE

$$

A classic Montana lodge located about 5 minutes from downtown Whitefish and across the street from the golf course. Grouse mountain has an indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, and complimentary shuttle into town. Great for families and anyone wanting a cozy mountain-lodge feel.

Formerly The Pine Lodge, this riverside hotel is about a 10-minute walk to downtown and offers river views, complimentary bikes, and indoor/outdoor pools.

THE LODGE

$$$$

The Lodge on Whitefish Lake is about 5 minutes from downtown and one of the most popular resorts in the area. They offer direct access to the water, kayaks, a spa, and a few restaurants. This is a great place to grab a drink on the dock even if you aren't staying here for the weekend!

FIREBRAND HOTEL

A modern boutique hotel in the area, Firebrand is directly in downtown Whitefish, just a walk from shopping and restaurants. They have a rooftop hot tub and patio, a coffee shop, and complimentary shuttle services. Great for those who don’t want to rent a car!

Things to Do

GLACIER NATIONAL PARK

Glacier National Park is the major draw to the flathead valley!

KAYAKING at LAKE MCDONALD

We have reserved some kayaks and paddle boards at Lake Mcdonald for our guests on Friday, September 17, from noon - 4 pm.

If you aren't able to join us, we still highly recommend booking your own kayaks and getting out on the lake after exploring the park!

Whitefish Lake

We highly recommend checking out one of the lakes in the valley! You can rent boats, paddle boards, or kayaks to enjoy the lake or check out City Beach to enjoy Whitefish Lake from the Shore!

WHITEWATER RAFTING

A half day of whitewater rafting through Glacier is an awesome way to experience the park with the family!

Make a Vacation Out of It!

Whitefish is one of our favorite places in the world, and we're so excited to share it with you. If your schedule allows, we'd highly recommend staying a few extra days to experience everything the Flathead Valley has to offer. Whether you're looking for adventure, great food, or simply time to relax by the lake, there's something for everyone. We will be having fun events all week that you can check out on our events page. If you'd like to join for all of them, we recommend arriving Tuesday night or Wednesday morning! How do I get to Whitefish?

The closest airport is Glacier Park International Airport (FCA) in Kalispell, about 20 minutes from downtown Whitefish. Direct flights are available from many major U.S. cities.

Do I need a rental car?

We recommend renting a car if you’d like to explore Glacier National Park or the surrounding area. If you’re only planning to stay in downtown Whitefish and attend the wedding, rideshares and hotel shuttles are also available.

When should I book my flights?

September is a popular time to visit northwest Montana. We recommend booking flights and accommodations as early as possible.

Where should I stay?

We’ve included our favorite hotels and vacation rentals on the Travel page. Downtown Whitefish is the most convenient location for restaurants, shopping, and wedding weekend events.

What will the weather be like?

Mid September is one of our favorite times of year in Montana! Expect warm afternoons (typically 65–80°F), cool mornings and evenings (40s–50s), and crisp mountain air. Layers are highly recommended.

What should I pack?

Bring layers! Mountain weather can change quickly. Depending on the activities you're interested in, we’d recommend:

* Swimsuit
* A light jacket
* Comfortable walking shoes/hiking shoes
* Sunglasses
* Sunscreen
* Reusable water bottle
* Bear spray if you’re hiking (available to rent or purchase locally)

What should I wear?

Ceremony & Reception: Semi-Formal/Cocktail Attire.
Our wedding is outdoors on a ranch, so you’ll likely be walking on grass and uneven ground. We recommend block heels, wedges, boots, or dress shoes that are comfortable outdoors.

Welcome Party: Cowboy Casual.
This event will be indoor/outdoor, so bring layers and comfortable shoes!

Thursday Golf: Golf Attire
Whitefish Lake Golf Club is a casual, local golf club; however, it does require proper golf attire.

Will transportation be provided?

Yes! Our venue does not allow ANYONE to drive to the venue. Transportation will be provided.

Is the ceremony outdoors?

Yes! Both our ceremony and reception will be outdoors. We’ll have covered areas available if needed.

Will there be cell service at the venue?

Montana has a funny way of encouraging everyone to unplug—Snowy River Ranch often has limited cell service! We'd love for our ceremony to be completely phone-free, so we kindly ask that you silence your phone and keep it tucked away until cocktail hour. We promise we'll share plenty of beautiful photos afterward!

Can I bring my children?

We've decided to make our ceremony and reception an adults-only celebration. We know many of our guests will be traveling with children, and we completely understand if you're planning to turn your trip into a Montana family vacation! Kids are more than welcome to join us for the rest of the wedding weekend, including pickleball, golf (for any junior golfers!), kayaking, the welcome party, and our farewell brunch.

To make things a little easier, we're also planning to help coordinate local babysitting services for the ceremony and reception. If you're interested, please text Hannah for more information (480)-313-3585.

Can I bring a plus one?

We truly wish we could invite everyone! Since we both come from large families, we had to be thoughtful about our guest list. Please refer to your invitation for the names of those invited. We appreciate your understanding and can't wait to celebrate with you!

Should we visit Glacier while we’re here?

Absolutely! September is one of the best times to visit. Be sure to check the National Park Service website for current road conditions, vehicle reservation requirements (if applicable), and trail information before your trip.

What altitude is Whitefish?

Whitefish sits at approximately 3,000 feet, with many hikes reaching higher elevations. Staying hydrated is the best way to help you feel your best.
